13th Annual Charity Golf Classic Recap

13th Annual Charity Golf Classic Recap

August 20, 2018

The 13th annual RE/MAX Charity Golf Classic is in the books as the event wrapped up on August 16.

Despite mild smoky conditions, the weather was perfect for the players to get out of the office for the day and take in the breathtaking view at the Deer Valley Golf Club while raising funds for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The Foundation’s mission is to raise funds to enhance maternal and children’s healthcare in Saskatchewan along with the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital. The Foundation’s pillars include family-centred care, equipment and technology enhancements, and research and innovation.

Tanner Braaten, a manager of development and engagement for the Foundation, attended the event for the first time this year as a representative.

“RE/MAX agents across Canada dedicate countless resources and time to volunteering [sic] and giving back in their local communities, [and] it is these efforts that have made RE/MAX one of the Children’s Miracle Network’s largest partners,” Braaten said. “RE/MAX Crown Real Estate has been integral to the support of the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.”

To start off the day, attendees were treated to a barbecue lunch during the registration process and then fired up the golf carts to hit the links at 1 p.m.

Not only did attendees play a round of golf, some sponsors set up booths at various holes to ensure players were having a good time, even when they were waiting to tee off.

Following the tournament, all the attendees gathered in the clubhouse for a fantastic chicken and ribs dinner and silent auction to further raise funds.

Normally a Champion Child from the Foundation addresses attendees. Unfortunately, this year’s Champion Child, Payton, was unable to attend the event. On June 7 she received a bone marrow transplant and has been undergoing daily visits to the hospital in Calgary for checkups.

We concluded the night’s program by announcing the cheque presentation and silent auction winners. With the help of everyone involved, we were able to raise over $22 thousand for the Foundation. Additionally, Canadian Pacific Railway (CP), through its CP Has Heart program, matched the donation for a total donation of over $44 thousand.

“Saskatchewan is one of two provinces in Canada not served by [a] dedicated children’s hospital,” Braaten said. “[The Golf Classic] was a fantastic event where we see the community coming together through the sport of golf as a way to support the healthcare of Saskatchewan children and families.”

Great work everyone!

Update: As of September, the 13th Annual Charity Golf Classic raised over $50 thousand!
